Cerner Government Services has established a diverse group of experts and thought leaders under the Cerner Government Advisory Board to provide direction on development, sustainment and outreach within the federal government, health care industry, Veteran and military communities, and service organizations.
Patrick Murphy, Board chair, was the first Iraq War Veteran elected to Congress serving on the Appropriations, Intelligence and Armed Services Committees, he was the 32nd under secretary of the Army, and is currently the chairman of innovation at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and an ambassador for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hiring Our Heroes initiative.
Thomas G. Bowman, colonel, USMC (retired), served as Deputy Secretary of The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from 2017-2018. His previous appointments within VA include Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff of VA, and Senior Advisor to the Secretary of VA, among others. Before joining VA in 2002, Mr. Bowman served as Senior Counsel to the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee. Mr. Bowman retired from the Marine Corps as a colonel in 1999, after 30 years of service.
Jim Peake, M.D., lieutenant general, USA (retired), is a senior vice president at CGI Federal, a leading IT and business process services provider. Dr. Peake served as the 6th U.S. secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) from Dec. 2007-Jan. 2009. He also served as the 40th surgeon general of the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart during his service in Vietnam.
Anthony Principi served as the 4th U.S. secretary of VA from Jan. 2001-Jan. 2005. He served in the Vietnam War and commanded a River Patrol Unit. He was awarded the Bronze Star and other military decorations. From 1984-1988 he served as Republican chief counsel and staff director to the Senate Armed Services Committee and served as the U.S. deputy secretary of VA from 1989-1992.
Chesley Richards, MD, MPH, is an independent public health consultant who previously served as Deputy Director for Public Health Science and Surveillance at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. During his time with the CDC, Dr. Richards held a variety of roles. He retired from CDC in November 2020 and currently works part-time providing consultation to organizations including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Bipartisan Policy Center.
Rina Shah, J.D., captain, USA (retired), is the CEO and president of Peridot Technologies, LLC, an information technology company that specializes in health informatics, cyber solutions and systems integration. She served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps, is an Iraq War Veteran and was awarded a Congressional Recognition Award and a Bronze Star. She also has a proven record in the area of federal acquisitions.
